Fronting the most disturbingly skewed avant-pop act in a mule's age would turn any man into a bit of a monster. But, for all his discordant dance beats and uncompromising yowls, Xiu Xiu frontman Jamie Stewart remains a sensitive soul. Stripped to their core, his songs face (and sometimes fall face-first into) the varied, often erratic emotions of life in a digital age. Stewart appears sans synths and vibrator-adorned gongs tonight, but don't let that lull you into a false sense of security: his solo sets render the striking dynamic contrasts in his songs (from haunting whispers to ear-piercing screams) all the more acute.
