Even in his old(er) age, Thurston Moore ain't no fuddy duddy. As he approaches 50 (and Sonic Youth trudges past 25), the dissonant guitar guru and up-and-coming label impresario remains an unquestionable icon, continuing to push at the underground's outer edges. Sure, his recent record is a fairly stripped-down affair. But as his own music mellows, the bands he ushers out become more and more interesting. In tonight's label showcase, Ecstatic Peace! signees MV & EE join their label master for a bit of psychedelic mischief, while Tall Firs offer a folksy Sonic Youth tribute, and Religious Knives psych out as only a crew of noisy basement Brooklynites can.
