Michael Pollan

The point Michael Pollan makes in In Defense of Food: An Eater's Manifesto is emblazoned right on its cover: "Eat food. Not too much. Mostly plants." This may sound simple and intuitive, but, as Pollan describes in his previous bestseller, The Omnivore's Dilemma, industrialized food, nutritional scientists, and fad diets have hopelessly confused the most basic of biological imperatives. Pollan, who has become the poster boy for the slow-food movement, suggests tradition and ecology have a lot more to tell us about good food choices than the USDA, and that we shouldn't eat "anything that your great-great-grandmother would not recognize as food."
