After seeing Brazilian performance artist Michel Melamed's one-man show Regurgitophagy, the phrase "feeding off the audience" will never be the same. During the entire course of the hour-long, largely improvised show, Melamed's hands and feet are shackled to strong electrical charges activated by the slightest audience noise: laughing, clapping, booing, and so forth. The show is a masochistic embodiment of the relationship between performer and audience, and an exploration of the limits of performance (and pain) itself: Melamed's running absurdist monologue courts laughs, while his body begs him to stop.
