As MSTRKRFT, producer ALP and former Death from Above 1979 bassist Jesse F. Keeler have become one of indie dance music's go-to remix teams. Retooling singles for Bloc Party, Annie, and the Gossip, among others, Keeler has fully embraced the dancey side of DFA79's bass 'n drums playboy rawk. Some tastemakers deemed MSTRKRFT's 2006 debut, The Looks, as house-by-the-numbers — and granted, their relentless 4/4 pounding and fuzzy, distorto beats are indebted to Daft Punk — but after the litany of kudos garnered by fellow travelers Justice and other Ed Banger types, they must feel some deserved vindication. MSTRKRFT's vision of house might be "bigger, louder, dumber," but that's half the point, and all the fun.
