New York City Center says…

The oldest US ballet company has a New York pedigree. Former SFB director Lew Christensen was the first American to dance George Balanchine's Apollo, and his successor, Helgi Tomasson, was a beloved member of NYC Ballet. (The latest link is former NYCB prima ballerina Sofiane Sylve, who has now brought her considerable technique to the West Coast.) Balanchine's notoriously difficult Divertimento No. 15 and the forever-radical Four Temperaments are part of SFB's anniversary tour, although most of the scheduled ballets premiered during this past May's New Works Festival. Among the choreographers are Tomasson, Christopher Wheeldon, Mark Morris, Jorma Elo, and retired company member Yuri Possokhov, who has made the transition from dancer to dancemaker as gracefully as his boss once did.
