Symphony Space says…

In their new book, State by State: A Panoramic Portrait of America, editors Matt Weiland (Paris Review) and Sean Wilsey (McSweeney's) determine the state of the writerly union, a textual trek inspired by the WPA American Guide Series of the '30s. The result unites 50 writers, each of whom puts pen to place — Rick Moody casts a cold eye on Connecticut's Merritt Parkway; Sarah Vowell muses on Montana; and Anthony Bourdain riffs on his native New Jersey. Symphony Space and Powell's Books screen the volume's companion documentary, which gathers 19 contributors, and host a discussion with Mohammed Naseehu Ali (Michigan), Jonathan Franzen (New York), Jacki Lyden (Missouri), and David Rakoff (Utah).
