Born from the lo-fi bedroom recordings of frontman Edward Droste, Grizzly Bear have received acclaim from critics and adoration from those within the industry. To wit: Paul Simon picked the band for a special collaboration at BAM, and the group has been praised (onstage, no less) by the usually laconic Jonny Greenwood. Grizzly Bear make deceptively simple indie rock that understates the quartet's technical skill, combining lush, atmospheric arrangements with layered, breathy harmonies. Tonight, the band plays at New York Magazine's 40th-anniversary party with fellow Brooklynites the National, who've been doing their best lately to make Obama Mr. November. The three hilarious madmen of Stella (that'd be David Wain and Michaels Showalter and Ian Black) emcee.
