Massachusetts-bred Jonathan Richman has been dropping controversial vinyl bombs since the early '70s. Co-founder of the legendary Modern Lovers (1970-74), the one-man Vienna Boys' Choir is the last of the great rock 'n roll innocents, with 22 full-length records to his credit (not to mention his treetop musical interludes in There's Something About Mary). He's a troubadour/prophet/magician who sings in five languages, with the sort of goofy onstage moves that might have you reaching for a rotten tomato — until he sucker-punches you straight through the heart. By turns hilarious, touching, outrageous, and poignant, Richman is a pro at delivering truly hypnotic sets.
