We have a long history of pursuing security — from the development of the atomic bomb to the present day color-coded terror alerts and arbitrary airport security restrictions. Mike Daisey introduces us to the people behind these creations and their all-too-human impulses in his new monologue, If You See Something Say Something. Evoking Benjamin Franklin's warning about trading freedom for security, he suggests that we only currently have the appearance of security. But it's Daisey's ability to tie these events to his own life that makes his diatribe impactful. As an atomic-war-obsessed boy in northern Maine, he grows to question the justification of dropping that bomb while standing at the test site in Los Alamos.
