Known to most as the beatsmith behind M.I.A.'s mixtape heard 'round the world, Piracy Funds Terrorism, Diplo has proven to be one of the most influential (and divisive) DJs of recent memory. Neophytes should try his Fabriclive.24 mix, which plays like a Whitman's Sampler of the Hollertronix sensibility: baile funk and new wave gliding seamlessly into southern rap (Killer Mike, Ludacris) and indie-dance spazz (Le Tigre). The vanguard might snipe at such obvious inclusions as Yaz's synth-pop staple "Don't Go" or Cybotron's oft-compiled proto-electro, but any DJ worth his Pumas knows the value of a well-placed sucker cut.
