Visionary architect Zaha Hadid collaborates with Chanel and fashion baron Karl Lagerfeld to land an ephemeral museum in the middle of NYC. Celebrating 50 years of the company's quilted handbag, 20 contemporary artists show works inspired by the label's emblematic accessory. On tour from Hong Kong and Tokyo, David Levinthal's wry commentary on "human handbags" offsets Subodh Gupta's Bollywood take on the ubiquitous accessory. By placing an old-fashioned object in a futuristic context, Chanel, as a brand, appears ageless — it emerges as a philosophy as much as a company.
