Leave it to bespectacled indie bookworm Mirah to add a subtle sensuality to the asexual world of entomology. On 2007's Share This Place, the C'mon Miracle maven lent her wistful, everygirl pipes to an insect-inspired song cycle based on the work of 19th-century scientist J. Henri Fabre. Layered with Spectratone International's warm cello, accordion, and Middle Eastern lute, the record's intimate story-songs are as quirky as the bugs that serve as their subtext — quiet, folksy compositions bustling with intractable life. The songstress hits town tonight for a showcase alongside smooth-tongued, Vancouver-bred indie rockers No Kids.
