This flick's been out for a while, but since we almost missed out on it, we thought we'd pass the gem on to you. A pitch-perfect suspense film from Swedish director Tomas Alfredson, Let the Right One In is that rare bird: a chiller with heart. Alfredson casts two striking newcomers, Kåre Hedebrant (Oskar) and Lina Leandersson (Eli), as a pair of 12-year-old kids who fall for each other in snowy Stockholm. The catch? Eli may not be a 12-year-old... or a girl... or human at all. Cinematographer Hoyte van Hoytema captures the tweens' awkward love affair with an eerie delicacy, even as increasingly violent shocks punctuate the wintry stillness. In the end, Alfredson tweaks the old adage: love — and revenge — conquers all.
