The Mercury Lounge says…

Wye Oak's Merge debut can't rightfully be called a sleeper: after all, if there's a Goliath of indie labels, Merge is it. Still, hype-magnetic bloggers don't tend to froth over unassuming throwbacks like Wye Oak. No matter. Songs like "Warning," with its layers of Galaxie 500 feedback, and "Regret" — which would've brought a tear to Elliott Smith's eye — speak loud enough. It's noisy but never abrasive, laid-back but never polite. With a little Throwing Muses here and a lot of Mazzy Star there, this Baltimore duo nuzzle up cozily to your ear, like an old fuzz-pop favorite from summers past.
