In a thoughtful and seductive suite of mixed-media paintings, New York artist Christa Toole ponders complex theories from the science of physics, specifically the movement of energy and metamorphoses of matter. Using wax, thread, pigment, and other at-hand materials, Toole sets down layers of organic shapes, fields of color, and supple lines in compositions that channel the delicate pas de deux between the macro- and microcosmos. The musicality and subtlety of her canvases hint at the near-primordial state of our planet, informed by studies suggesting the Earth is still in its earliest evolutionary phase.
