For the last three years, tourists have huddled together in front of the Guggenheim — Museum Mile landmark and Frank Lloyd Wright's monument of modern architecture — forcing smiles despite a backdrop of scaffolding. Forward-looking as it was, Wright's design did not foresee the toll that the next four decades of gravity would take. By the Fall of 2005, when the scaffolding went up, the facade was in obvious need of a face-lift, with gaping cracks and gnarly crow's feet. But today, the bandages come off. The museum celebrates with a day of free admission and the (continued) projection of Jenny Holzer's site-specific commission For the Guggenheim.
