While Okkervil River songs usually start with a slowly strumming acoustic guitar, it's only a matter of time before the drums crash in, the bass flicks on, and the banjo and keys begin to chime. And while they're beautiful in their own unhinged way, the alt-country ensemble's instrumental crescendos always highlight the impassioned howls and literate lyrics of lead singer/songwriter Will Sheff. Tonight, the band plays a few of the frenzied, lo-fi gems from their 2005 breakthrough Black Sheep Boy, 2007's acclaimed The Stage Names, and the new (and awesome) The Stand Ins.
