In the gangsta-heavy days of the early '90s, Digable Planets chose instead to focus on new-age themes of interconnectivity — between human beings and their environment, between people of different races, even between music and art. The staunchly anti-commercial group debuted in 1993 with an accidental hit, the Grammy-winning album Reachin' (A New Refutation of Time and Space), but never hit mainstream success again after that brush with fame. More than a decade later, these golden-age stalwarts are back, ready to own the house with their still-inimitable jazzy, conscious hip-hop.
