f/ocus says…

After a campaign of hope that culminated in a jubilant November 4, some of us might hesitate to turn our attention back to the dark reality of poverty as a crippling force throughout the world. But through her travels to Comunidad Romero, a tiny town in El Salvador whose citizens are in danger of displacement, Victoria Dearing certainly hasn't forgotten that fact. On display as part of a fundraiser to send emergency aide to Comunidad Romero, Dearing's poignant and powerful photographs opt not to show the faces of the townspeople; instead, her restrained lens captures the evidence of their poverty in the barbed wire and ropes that tenuously hold their shanties together. To lure you into the giving spirit, Salvadorian restaurant Bahia provides free nibbles, Balthazar pours the wine, and tequila comes courtesy of Inocente.
