More Flavor: Benefit

NYXNY presents Bad Art Auction feat. Xiu Xiu

Judah Friedlander (the trucker-hatted staff writer on 30 Rock) has some funny — and drunk — shoes to fill, following last year's Bad Art Auction host Zach Galifianakis. The art also has to be pretty terrible to top last year's NASCAR portraiture and inflatable pig paintings (donated by Moby, no less). But, we're sure New York mag has realized all of this, and has planned an appropriately appalling evening to again benefit charitable partner New York Cares. Avant rockers Xiu Xiu cap the affair with some good, if dissonant, art-rock noise.

this is such a funny idea. it might suffer from the current lack of disposable income, but i think the laugh value and big name donators should keep it going strong.

Paying large sums of money for ugly paintings, or watching others do so, then taking in a Xiu Xiu performance - that right there could drive a sane man bizzerk.
