New York mutant-disco legends Liquid Liquid were an essential part of the minimal-funk and post-punk canon, but their collected recordings have remained largely elusive. Scott Hartley, Richard McGuire, Salvatore Principato, and Dennis Young formed the band (initially known as Liquid Idiot) in Manhattan in 1979, performing their first gig together at CBGB's that August. Their small discography, released as a series of EPs on 99 Records, offered a prescient blend of dub production, punk influence, and fluid bass lines and rhythms. Tonight, the band returns at the behest of Speical Disco Version (LCD Soundsystem's James Murphy and Pat Mahoney), reviving an ideal "body music" that bridged the gap between rock and dance.
