On her solo debut, Brechtian cabaret punk and Dresden Dolls frontwoman Amanda Palmer checks out of Hot Topic and into adulthood. While Who Killed Amanda Palmer retains the songstress' dark themes and ribald sense of humor, its imagery is more introspective than naively emotive. Plunking through a series of Ben Folds-style (and produced) piano poppers, Palmer manages to stir up the circus without all the animals, creating buoyant anthems that are unquestionably serious. Live, her cabaret-cum-freakshow remains as energetic as ever, incorporating the bizarre antics of morbid performance troupe the Danger Ensemble.
