While drummer Frankie Rose's other band, Vivian Girls, is getting a lot of press as of late, the Crystal Stilts continue to contend. While the quintet draws influences from New Zealand indie bands like the Clean, they're best described as an anachronistic, shoegazing Joy Division. Their new record, Alight of Night, is masterfully conceived: with every hook in place and all the reverb stacked just right, the tunes sound as if they're creeping through the floorboards. Tonight's show, a release party for the new album, is at the self-described "gayest DIY venue in New York City," Less Artists, More Condos.
