Alex Grey, best known for his Sacred Mirrors series of metaphysical anatomical maps, is ready to show his (ever-evolving) self-portraits in this collection from the past 40 years. Begining with the artist as an adolescent, portraits range from daily journal entries to personal milestones like birthdays and fatherhood, with a few erotic interludes along the way (as in the ink-and-semen series). Filled with vivid colors throughout, realist imagery plays alongside fantastical visions. This exhibit marks the closing of Gray's Chapel and a planned move up the Hudson to an interfaith retreat center, after spending four years as a downtown mystic mecca.
