While bands like the Ponys and the Black Lips prove it's possible to retain classic conventions while ditching predictability, In the Red Records' own the King Khan & BBQ Show pull this feat off with unparalleled earnestness and limitless passion. The group's formula is simple: BBQ handles most of the vocal duties while playing rhythm guitar and kicking a bass drum, and Khan, meanwhile, plays lead guitar. The duo's setup might sound like a novelty act (the goofy name doesn't help), but they're serious rockers — the melodies are instant, and the players careen off one another in dazzling, yet primitive fashion.
