IFC Center says…

Arnaud Desplechin may be one of the cinema's most important living directors (he's certainly the best ensemble film director working today), but he's hardly a household name in the United States. That said, his films represent the very best of both contemporary and past French film traditions — winking, philosophical, rhapsodic, existentialist, and lush — and deserve to be viewed on big screen whenever possible. Kings and Queen (2004), a sprawling ode to how two lovers fail and fool each other and themselves, may be the most ideal distillation of his work to date, but this rare opportunity to ogle his earlier work (especially 1992's La Sentinelle) also should be seized.
