The ideas "party" and "experimental rock music" might not be on especially good terms, but the avant-garde's best and brightest do their darndest tonight to make them get along. Two collaborative performances are the highlights here: Sonic Youth's Thurston Moore gets together with rock's premier harpist (apologies to Joanna Newsom) Zeena Parkins, while C. Spencer Yeh's freestyle violin weirdness (see Burning Star Core) joins Greg Kelley's experimental trumpeting for some electro-acoustic treats. Of course, this is all in celebration of the release of "noise superstar" Carlos Giffoni's new CD, Adult Life, so expect Giffoni to get on the pedals and do his thing too.
