Some action stars age gracefully, (see Sean Connery) some not so gracefully (see Chuck Norris), and still others go into politics (see California). Jean-Claude Van Damme, of Bloodsport (1988) fame, is now nearing 50, and since the height of his fame has wrestled (or, more accurately, kickboxed) with bipolar disorder, cocaine addiction, and multiple failed marriages. Rather than quietly resign himself to the life of a troubled, aging ex-martial arts star, though, Van Damme has taken a role in the oddly semi-autobiographical JCVD, where he plays a troubled, aging ex-martial arts star fighting for custody of his daughter. French newcomer Mabrouk El Mechri directs Van Damme in what could be his first "serious" role.
