Part post-apocalyptic vision, part biographical flashback, Richard Prince's Canal Zone is set in primal overdrive. Filled with an abundance of virile bodies, pulp beauties, and Restorationist visions of war-torn utopias, Prince's canvases indicate his very cut-and-paste approach. Through the use of squeegees, printers, and ample image-layering, a violently composed storyboard emerges from each panel, splattered in paints and grease sticks. Known for his darkness and humor, as earlier exhibited in his Spiritual America retrospective (along with last spring's collaboration with luxury design house Louis Vuitton), Prince continues to stretch the possibilities of the appropriated images he employs.
