The Mountain Goats come to New York this week as part of their depressingly titled The Last Happy Night of Your Life tour. With a whopping 14 albums to their credit, the band — who for years consisted solely of frontman John Darnielle — specialize in brilliantly tortured lyrics that often use sardonic wit to depict the desperate and depressed. Discography highlights include 2003's Tallahassee and 2005's John Vanderslice-produced The Sunset Tree. Live, Darnielle's infectious quirks, onstage banter, and impressive musicianship always make for a memorable show. Singer/songwriter Kaki King opens.
