World AIDS Day Candlelight Vigil and Gathering

HIV/AIDS activist and support org Gay Men's Health Crisis hosts what is likely one of several vigils this evening, on the 20th anniversary of World AIDS Day. Meet at 6pm at GMHC headquarters to participate in a candlelight vigil and procession to Judson Memorial Church on Washington Square South, where there will be a reading of names of those lost to AIDS, followed by speeches from community leaders and various diverse clergy. Singing, dancing, and refreshments end the contemplative night on a more jubilant note.

Note:

The GMHC offices are located at 119 W 24th Street, between 6th and 7th Avenues.

I can't believe it's been 20 years since the first World AIDS Day. And I also can't believe that the illness affected so many individuals from 1981-88 before this day was even commemorated. It still makes me sad.
