The respective progeny of the late, great George Plimpton and A Heartbreaking Work of Staggering Genius author Dave Eggers, the Paris Review and McSweeney's are two journals at the forefront of contemporary and emerging literature. One's a little older and wiser, while the other's a bit more irreverent. When Sean Wilsey and Matt Weiland brought them together, State by State: A Panoramic Portrait of America — an anthology of 50 takes on the Federal Writer's Project American Guide Series from the 1930s, each written by a different author — was the result. Tonight, Wilsey and Weiland assemble an all-star cast of readers that includes Jonathan Franzen and Parker Posey.
