As the experimental electronic-music scene blossomed, modern knob-twiddlers have traced their genealogy only to find Silver Apples perched near the top of the family tree. The duo (Simeon manipulating oscillators, Danny Taylor drumming) came out of nowhere in the late '60s with two albums of cracked signals, otherworldly sound waves, and machine-made wheezing. As interest in the band was renewed in the late '90s, some of the mystery faded — new records, festival sightings, and multi-city tours followed. Taylor has since passed away, but Silver Apples are no less amazing in their current incarnation. Tongiht, in celebration of FARIMANI's recent inaugural issue, Simeon recreates the band's 1969 Central Park concert with a freeform psychedelic jam inspired by the moon landing.
