New York's Longwave deftly tread the straight-and-narrow line between shoegaze and post-punk pop, playing fastidious, radio-rady tunes steeped in singer/frontman Steve Shlitz's rich vocal harmonies. The band's most recent release, Secrets Are Sinister, is yet another notch in the band's shimmering belt. For their part, local up-and-comers the Dig show off the fruits of their recent residencies with a well-honed performance of catchy, Strokes-like ballads. Adorable Detroit act the Silent Years, meanwhile, contribute clever, folksy melodies ripe with humor and surprising, dynamic shifts.
