Lou Reed's 1973 record Berlin was met with predominantly negative reviews and fan response. As a result, it was largely abandoned by Reed and rarely performed. Of late, it has become known as one of Reed's most accomplished albums (ranked #344 on Rolling Stone's top 500 albums of all time). Last year, Reed finally performed the album on tour with a 30-piece band and 12 singers. Julian Schnabel filmed the performance over five days in a warehouse in Brooklyn, turning the under-rated "rock opera," about star-crossed lovers coping with mental illness and mixed up in drugs, into an epic starring Schnabel favorite, Emmanuelle Seigner.
