Before hip-hop, R&B, and jazz, there was gospel. Uniting the church and state of music since America's childhood, this powerful polyphony of expression stands as strong as ever. Today, the original soul music is spread across the city through the voices of young and old, sopranos and baritones. Clap your hands with hundreds of other spectators as determined choir contestants from all over the country harmonize their way to the top. The competition begins downtown and by nightfall roars to a finale in Harlem for a performance with a surprise gospel superstar and a handsome prize.
