Art WACK!: Art and the Feminist Revolution
-
- Kirsten Justesen, Sculpture II, Courtesy the artist, MoCA Los Angeles, and PS1
With Hillary Clinton in the political limelight, WACK!: Art and the Feminist Revolution couldn't be more timely. A survey of 120 international female artists working in all mediums from the mid-'60s through the '80s, WACK! is bound to draw attention to the persistent glass ceiling in both the art world and society at large. Surveying trends through the decades via the works of distinguished artists (Alice Neel, Martha Rosler, Eva Hesse) and iconoclasts (Adrian Piper, Lynda Benglis, Cindy Sherman), it includes a few unfamiliar names, as well — all the more reason to spend some time catching up on these neglected figures.
Note: There's a series of opening-day events on Sun Feb 17, including the 30th-anniversary reunion of DISBAND (2pm) and a performance by I.U.D. with Lizzie Bougatsos and Sadie Laska (4pm).
