The political-convention circus is a time-honored tradition, as activists and police butt heads in what is as much a cat-and-mouse game as an exercise in free speech. Director Brett Morgan (The Kid Stays in the Picture, 2002) documents the infamous Chicago 1968 Democratic National Convention, whose ensuing riots polarized the nation. Morgan subverts the traditional political-doc format in Chicago 10 by ditching talking-head narration in favor of animated re-enactments mashed up with grainy footage. Tonight, Morgan opens the floor for a post-screening discussion along with political activist and author Kevin Powell.
