When a jaded New York City theatre critic berates Civil War re-enactors on the radio, his cruel jests reach the ears of three Southern enthusiasts living in the Confederate "trenches." The three seemingly dull-witted men kidnap the critic and drag him to their "base" with unclear (but sinister) intentions. In a clever and self-effacing style, playwright John Ahlin reveals that the kidnappers are bizarrely intelligent and obsessed with wordplay. The impressive outdoor scenery eventually frames a battle between two opposite but valid viewpoints on the Civil War, race, and a country divided.
