MoMA The Museum of Modern Art says…

By declaring February "docs month," MoMA deserves the 2008 award for successfully curing the annual slim-pickings-in-cinema blues. This week's program highlights a fascinating era in US docs, when the whole world had suddenly become much more accessible through developing technology — for better and for much, much worse. Against that era's very pre-CNN backdrop, news documentaries played an integral role in educating citizens everywhere, a precedent maintained even during today's conflicts in the Middle East. In particular, check out Moscow Strikes Back (1942), narrated by Edward G. Robinson, which takes a very close look at the Soviet struggle against Nazi invasion.
