A Week of Strings

Math-minded composer and new-media artist Zach Layton guest-curates a week of chamber music gone awry in a series of sound installations and performances at Issue Project Room. Tonight, Ben Manley runs a metal wire through the space, setting it vibrating with a sine-wave oscillator and producing an unearthly series of low frequencies and harmonies. On Thursday, Brooklyn-based performer Dan Joseph updates the 2000-year-old hammer dulcimer via electronic arrangement; and the next evening features the Plus-Minus Ensemble's Alex Waterman on cello. Rounding out the week, Rebecca Cherry plays the violin to a vintage-film collage in The Compleat Victrola Sessions.
