Matmos are sort of like the high schooler that wiggles in a plastic bag to convey the intricacies of Hamlet. Since 1998's quasi-objects LP, which exclusively relied on found sounds, the electronic duo has crafted entire albums based on literary and historical concepts; their most recent effort, The Rose Has Teeth in the Mouth of a Beast, is a collection of abstract "sound portraits" depicting sundry luminaries. While their forthcoming Supreme Balloon is a more straightforward synth-and-bleep affair, tonight's delightfully arcane show promises their "cover" of Robert Ashley's scattered television opera, Perfect Lives.
