Cobblestone Jazz channel the soul of Charles Mingus, then route it through a TB-303 synth. The Canadian trio, headed up by established solo producer and Wagon Repair label head Mathew Jonson, creates music rooted in both jazz-style improvisation and classic Detroit techno. In their breakthrough performance at the 2007 Mutek Festival, the group parlayed live jazz keys, vocoder, samples, sequenced drums, and ad-lib synthesizer into arguably one of the electronic-music showcase's most engaging live shows. After some protracted visa issues that delayed a US tour, the group makes their NYC debut, playing with Montreal's Misstress Barbara.
