Music: Classical John Zorn: The Dreamers and Essential Cinema

Tzadik impresario, East Village-composer kingpin, and MacArthur Grant recipient John Zorn can rustle up a fine racket, but he's still got an ear for melody. In tonight's premiere of The Dreamers, the noted sax skronker reprises the tone of 2001's The Gift, leading a small group (whose members include Marc Ribot and Ikue Mori) through an eclectic, exotica-driven patchwork of pop styles. Not one to stray long from the avant-garde, Zorn follows up with a different ensemble on Saturday, playing Essential Cinema, a series of scores synchronized to films by Joseph Cornell, Kenneth Anger, Maya Deren, and Harry Smith.
