Melbourne-based, genre-defying dance company Chunky Move returns to New York with Glow, a short (under an hour), yet entirely satisfying encounter between dance and technology. Choreographer Gideon Obarzane, in collaboration with interactive-software engineer Frieder Weiss, employs motion-tracking technology to turn a solo piece into a compelling duet. In the piece, a sole dancer enters a dialogue with a real-time video landscape. The relationship between the dancer and video slowly changes, creating a surprising transformation in power dynamics. As dance goes, it is a rare occurrence to witness a dancer struggling to escape a stage floor that threatens to confine her.
