There's a lot more color and zing on the Great White Way with the addition of In the Heights, an ebullient musical that eschews certain stereotypes while fully embracing others to bring the barrio to life. First seen off-Broadway last year, the musical is the work of Lin-Manuel Miranda, who not only composed the buoyant music and lyrics, but oozes energy and charm as the star. The storyline veers toward predictable soap-opera territory, and there are too many loose ends neatly tied up in the second act — but that hardly matters when the cast bursts into a roof-raising song-and-dance number. If only the party continued after the show.
