As a founding member of '60s psych legends 13th Floor Elevators, singer/guitarist Roky Erickson wasn't shy about experimenting with drugs (he often described the band's music and ethos as "where the pyramid meets the eye, man!"). Perhaps in an effort to continue trying new things — or perhaps because he's begun to emerge from a nearly three-decade-long battle with mental illness — Erickson recently returned to the fold (playing his old tunes, as well as revving up with a heavy metal-ish, horror-themed project called Bleib Alien). Whatever his inspiration, Erickson is proving to be one of the great comeback stories in rock 'n roll.
