Performing Arts: Theatre America on the Global Stage: A Performance and Discussion

The war in Iraq is most often compared to the war in Vietnam, but its roots go back even further — to the Philippine-American War of 1899, during which 4,324 Americans and as many as one million Filipinos lost their lives. Tonight, CUNY's Center for the Humanities presents a selection of scenes from Year One of the Empire, a new "documentary play" that draws entirely from primary sources from the war. After the performance, a panel including CUNY professors David Nasaw and Neil Smith as well as theatre critic (and co-author of Year One) Elinor Fuchs discusses the current war as it compares to a conflict that occurred more than 100 years ago.
