The Moth revives the art of storytelling in this creative competition. At each event, contestants tell a five-minute story around a theme, and audience judges determine a winner. The series culminates in tonight's biannual GrandSLAM Championship, a battle royale of writerly wit between the ten victors. Hosted by Dan Kennedy — a McSweeney's contributor and author of disenchanted music memoirs Rock On and Loser Goes First — this showdown is centered around "uphill battles" and features oratory warriors like comedian Elna Baker, five-time finalist Martin Dockery, filmmaker Noah Harlan, and reigning champ Ed Gavagan.
